Caring for older Australians at the end of life requires a workforce that is skilled and knowledgeable. The importance of developing the workforce is acknowledged in the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards with specific reference to workforce planning (Outcome 2.8) and human resource management (Outcome 2.9).

Managers and educators can also find out about palliAGED products that can be used to develop their workforce in the palliAGED products section. Orientation and workplace training is a good first step in supporting workforce. Specific time for training shows a commitment to good practice and builds teamwork. Encourage staff to share their knowledge with others and think about how to use this new knowledge at work.
