Australian Context
Aged care is the support provided to older people who need help in their own home or who can no longer live at home. To be eligible for government-funded services, you need to be over 65 years of age, or over 50 years if you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
Aged care services care for older people as they age through to the end of life. Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards contain a Clinical Care Standard that describes the responsibilities of providers to deliver safe and quality clinical care to older people with respect to palliative care and end-of-life care.
